Sustainable Energy

One of the chief problems in our modern energy culture is that our practices are unsustainable. We have a finite amount of coal, oil, and natural gas on this planet with which to work, and we lack the means to replace the supply. Enter the search for sustainable energy. We have a clear need of energy sources that will not run out as we use them.

Sustainability has been an issue as long as we have needed energy. We used whale blubber to make oil for lubrication and lamps. When we over-whaled the oceans we switched to petroleum based oil to meet our needs. However we still remained hooked on a substance which we could not replenish fast enough to meet demands.

We have promising leads in the field of sustainable energy. Hydroelectric power is replenished by the earth’s water cycle continually. Solar power will outlast our planet at this rate. Even wind power alone has enough excess potential to completely supply our projected future needs. The sustainable power we need is waiting for the technology to implement it.
