Solar FAQs

Why be energy efficient?

It’s socially responsible, and it will save you money. Being wasteful with your energy usage doesn’t just hurt others, it hurts your bottom line. If you want to have an edge in today’s competitive market you must be able to cut costs wherever feasible. This is a simple and effective way to do that.

What are alternative sources of energy I can use?

Depending on your location, it may not be viable to go off grid- that is to become completely self sufficient for your own power needs. However if you live in an area with sufficient sun exposure installing solar panels on your roof is a great way to mitigate your outside energy needs. Many utility companies also offer green initiatives to help promote and develop sustainable power. While you won’t get your power from a different source immediately, participating in these initiatives will help insure clean energy for the future.

What is so important about sustainable energy?

Currently the vast majority of our global energy comes from unsustainable means. This means that we are burning through resources we cannot replace. Eventually these resources will run out, or simply become prohibitively expensive. If we are not developing our alternative energy sources now, the technology will not be in place when we need it. Sustainable energy sources exist to be tapped, such as the energy of the sun, wind, and water. We need to adapt or replace our current energy transmission systems to take advantages of these sources.

What should I look for in a green product?

Green is the new black, and everybody wants a piece of the action. So when shopping for services or items that purport to be green, look for the seal of an organization such as the Eugene Green Energy Standard or a Green Certificate recognized by your state or country.
