A chest freezer is the most energy efficient type of freezer. This is because of its horizontal design. Because the door of the chest freezer is on top of the unit, the cold air, which is heavier than warm air, cannot escape so freely. The weight of the door also helps to provide a strong seal. Chest freezers are roughly 10% to 25% more efficient than upright models.

Even though they are more energy efficient than upright models, it is important to monitor the temperature of your energy efficient chest freezer.
