Energy Efficient Air Conditioner

An energy efficient air conditioner can refer to either a central air unit that ties into your furnace and existing duct work or a small window unit for a room. Either way, you’ll be looking at energy savings most commonly identified by the Energy Star logo, a cosponsored group by the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Energy. In order to qualify for the logo the machines must be at least 14 percent more efficient that non qualifying counterparts for the central air units and 10 percent more efficient than other non qualifying room air conditioners.

The measurement for central air units goes by the seasonal energy efficiency ratio as well as a normal energy efficiency ratio to calculate the total efficiency of the unit. One of the best things you can do is calculate the savings in energy compared to a normal unit to mathematically decide how much savings you can get and how long it will take you to pay back that savings understanding these might be pricier than regular units. Another thing to keep in mind is that you can install the most high energy efficient air conditioner in the world, but that can be undone by a low quality or dated furnace blower. The best advice is to capture the highest efficiency possible by replacing your furnace and air conditioner.
